Revell's 1:24 scale Trabants

Trabant 601S Universal 25 Jahre Mauerfall
Like its West German counterpart the Volkswagen Beetle, the Trabant has also received a legendary reputation as a vehicle for the masses. The 601 in particular - the third and most built model in the Trabant series has long since been elevated to cult status. Mass production of a three-door estate car version of the 601 designated the Universal was launched in 1965. This vehicle also had body panels made of Duroplast developed in the body shop in Merane. For reasons of cost the easy to maintain Universal was also technically identical to the saloon. Over 500,000 units were built. It was also powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder two-stroke engine displacing 600 cc and producing the distinctive two-stroke sound.

An exceptionally rare Trabant was created in October 2014. To mark the 25th anniversary of German reunification, artists from the Leipzig Graffiti Association decorated the car with scenes depicting the Fall of the Wall . This unique, roadworthy piece of art on four wheels was auctioned off at the end of October 2014 in favour of the German Children's Cancer Aid charity, which campaigns for the fight against cancer in children. The kit includes a decal set with the unique 25 years Fall of the Wall motive for decoration.

Trabant 601 Universal
The Trabant 601 with its typical trapezoidal shape was the third and most prolific model of the Trabant series. It was produced from 1964 onwards. It was followed in 1965 by the 3-door estate version called the Universal . This was also powered by a 26 bhp air-cooled two-cylinder, two-stroke engine displacing 600 cc which emitted an unmistakeable sound. The long rear side windows of the Universal imparted a rather pleasing appearance. Of particular note was the boot space which after a quick conversion offered room for up to 1400 litres of baggage, and could be easily loaded thanks to the wide-opening tailgate. Over 544,398 units of this in reality universally usable estate car left the production line up to 1989.

Tamiya 1:35 Toyota Model AB Phaeton

The Toyota AB Phaeton was a vehicle first produced in 1936 and it was part of the line started by the famed Japanese car maker. The A1 was the first prototype passenger car built by the company that became Toyota. It was redesigned and put into production as Toyota's first production cars, the AA sedan and the AB cabriolet. A total of 353 AB phaetons, including the military ABR version, were produced until 1942. The majority were eventually sent to the military and never made it into the hands of the public as was originally intended.

The AB was a soft-top variant of the Model AA, and inherited features such as the 3.4-liter inline-6 engine, live axle leaf spring front/rear suspension and body lines influenced heavily by U.S. road cars. It differed from the AA in its folding cloth roof, dedicated windshield design, and front-hinged door layout. To make room for the new folding auxiliary seats, the rear seat bank was moved somewhat further back.

Features

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Length: 139mm, width: 50mm, height: 53mm
  • This Tamiya scale plastic model faithfully captures all of the details of the full-size subject thanks to extensive research of surviving samples left over from the war.
  • The form of the AB is captured in all its classic style, with rounded front grille and fenders.
  • Modelers can choose to depict the roof in deployed or retracted position.
  • Interior parts such as seats, floor panels, ladder frame, engine underside and more offer a realistic finish.
  • Auxiliary seats can be assembled in folded out or stowed position.
  • Comes with 1 driver figure.
